March 14, 2019: The deadline for submissions for the Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Innovation Award — the winner is to be announced at the opening day of the annual BCI convention on April 28 — closed in March with a flood of submissions.
“We’ve received 11 presentations for the award from a wide range of applicants,” says Michael Borgeson, one of the coordinators of the event. “It shows the depth of inventive thinking that characterizes the modern lead battery industry and its greater appetite to show off the latest advances in facing off the challenges of lithium batteries.”
Submissions for the award have come from: Abertax, Battery Rescue, Customized Energy Solutions, Daramic, Microporous, Narada, Philadelphia Scientific, Power-Sonic, RSR, Terrapure and Voltific.
Each submission is judged on eight areas: sustainability, safety, cost, performance, detail, uniqueness, value and how it is quantifiable. The judging panel is independent from BCI.
A set of video presentations will be posted on the Battery Council website after the winner and two honourable mentions are named after the opening ceremony of the convention.
The BCI Convention and Power Mart Expo will be held between April 28-30 in New Orleans. It is universally acknowledged as the most important lead battery conference in the Americas.
The Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Innovation Award celebrates innovation in equipment, processes, services and products that advance the lead battery industry. It was set up in 2016 to honour the memory of Sally Miksiewicz, the former CEO of East Penn Manufacturing.
