March 28, 2019: What will become an annual celebration of women in the lead battery industry will feature a champagne toast during theWomen in the Lead Battery Industry Networking Reception, sponsored by Batteries International and the BCI at the trade body’s Big Energy Convention and Power Mart. Reflecting the growing number of women in the lead battery industry, two new female inductees will be welcomed at the Wednesday morning Quarter-Century Club breakfast. They are Carri Moffatt, from ENTEK, and Sheila Ryles, from Teck Metals.

Other highlights of the event will include the Gumbo Trio, who will play at the Welcome Ceremony (pictured).

This year’s convention, in New Orleans, Louisiana, begins on Sunday April 28 with registration, a golf tournament and evening reception, offering local food and jazz entertainment.

The convention will be opened the following day by BCI executive vice-president Kevin Moran, who will speak just before this year’s Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Innovation Award is presented.

Monday’s keynote speaker is Curt Hébert, former chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, who will explore potential opportunities for the use of lead batteries in electricity markets in the US and new markets for the manufacturers of on-site power units and battery suppliers.

Tuesday’s keynote speaker is Paul Dabbar, under secretary for science with the US Department of Energy and principal adviser on fundamental energy research, technologies and science. He will speak before the new CBI’s Roadmap for Lead Batteries is presented by Alistair Davidson.

Several speakers will then talk about ‘How the Lead Battery Industry is Shaping Change’. These include Exide Technologies’ Luca Brisotto, director product management and applications transportation EU; NorthStar Battery’s Jeremy Cordray, director original equipment, transportation; Exide Technologies’ Jean-Paul Douady, CENELEC chairman; Johnson Controls Power Solutions’ Torsten Hildebrandt, manager requirements analysis; and Ford Research Center’s Eckhard Karden, technical specialist.

Women will be toasted towards the end of Tuesday, during the Women in the Lead Battery Industry Networking Reception at 4pm-5pm.
