BCI announces innovation award entries for Tucson 2018

Battery Council International this week announced the entries for the Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz innovation awards. The winner will be presented at the BCI convention in Tucson, Arizona at the end of April.

“The innovation awards are closely watched by us all,” says one commentator. “In many ways since their introduction a couple of years ago, they’re an indicator of the health of the industry.”

The following seven entries have been received:

  • Abertax Technolgies: One Valve
  • Daramic: Carbon Coated Separator Technology
  • GNB Industrial Power: Tensor x Gel
  • Gridtential Energy: Silicon Joule Technology
  • HighWater Innovations: GO Battery
  • Terrapure Environmental: LI Detector
  • UNISEG Products: Battery Transport & Storage

Batteries International will report further details of the award entries in the BCI Yearbook 2018.

BCI communications director Lisa Dry told BESB that the awards ceremony would also recognize Gitanjali Rao, the 2017 winner of Discovery Education and 3M Young Scientist Challenge. Rao was inspired by the Flint water crisis in 2014, when more than 100,000 residents were exposed to high lead levels in their drinking water in Flint, Michigan.

“We were inspired by her story and have invited her to the conference to show support for young women — she was 11 when she won — in STEM programmes,” said Dry.

“It’s particularly fitting for her to be recognized during our programme named for a leading woman in our industry.”

The US celebrates National Battery Day this Sunday, February 18. BCI has released a video in conjunction with the day.
