Leiby retires from East Penn after 40-year career with the firm 150 150 Batteries International

July 2, 2020: Rick Leiby — known to almost two generations of lead battery men — stepped down at the end of June from East Penn Manufacturing after more than 40 years with the firm. He joined in November 1979 and for the last 27 years has been vice president for metals operations.

In a letter announcing his retirement and published on LinkedIn — which also attracted more than 70 messages from well-wishers — he wrote:

“Dear friends,

“For the last 40 years it has been my privilege and honor to work at East Penn and participate in this company’s growth and success … I am extremely grateful for the opportunities and the trust the Breidegam and Miksiewicz families have given me over my career.

“Also for the trust and faith that was shown to me by my fellow employees and East Penn’s suppliers through their support.

“I take with me a host of fond memories not just of the challenges, and the success the Metals Division has had, but especially of the people with whom I worked, some now present and some gone, that made everyday enjoyable to come to work.”

A full interview with Rick, chronicling his time at East Penn, will appear in the next issue of Batteries International.
