May 6, 2021: Battery Council International has opened the door to submissions for the next Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Innovation award, which will be announced at the annual convention in September that should be held in person this year.
Submissions must be in by July 9, 2021, and videos made by candidates will be screened at the convention to showcase their ideas. Videos can be submitted a little later, by July 23.
Factors to consider when putting forward an idea include sustainability, safety, cost, performance, uniqueness and value.
Entries do not have to be made by BCI members, but they should have been introduced in the last 12 months and should ‘advance the lead battery industry’.
ArcActive won the award last year for its work on removing the lead grid on negative electrodes and replacing it with AACarbon, an unwoven fibre fabric.
Other former winners include Hammond, NorthStar, Gridtential and RSR Technologies.
The award has been held at every convention since 2016 to honour Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz, the former CEO of East Penn Manufacturing, who died in a running accident in 2014 at the age of 52.
This year’s convention and power mart is a little later than the usual end of April event, and will be held on September 22-25 in San Diego, California.
