ENTEK completes buy-out of NSG Battery Separator Division 150 150 Batteries International

September 9, 2021: Separator manufacturer ENTEK completed a majority stake acquisition of the Battery Separator Division of the Japanese glass manufacturer NSG Group on September 1.

The deal includes all of the BSD manufacturing facilities in Japan and China for polyethylene and AGM separators.

ENTEK says this means it is the only separator manufacturer in the world to produce all three primary separator technologies – PE, AGM and lithium-ion separators.

“This investment provides ENTEK with both capacity and expanded product offerings to help meet broader customer demands as well as enabling entry in to new markets,” said CEO Larry Keith.

“This acquisition is one of many exciting strategic initiatives under way at ENTEK including the expansion of the Indonesia manufacturing site, expansion of ENTEK’s equipment division and collaboration and investment at the Britishvolt gigafactory site in the UK.”

ENTEK signed an MoU with Britishvolt, which is building the first lithium battery gigafactory in the UK, in June. It means separators will be domestically produced in the UK and supplied to Britishvolt’s production line. Ground-breaking at the site in Blyth near Newcastle-upon-Tyne took place at the end of July.

“Co-location at Britishvolt’s site will allow access to an abundance of renewable energy, essential for power-intensive manufacturing processes,” said Britishvolt.
