September 24, 2021: Carbon black manufacturer Birla Carbon took advantage of the US Battery Show on September 14-16 to announce it was entering the energy systems sector with an additive designed for lead and lithium batteries.
Birla Carbon claims it has some of the answers to the quest for higher performance in lead-acid batteries, which is an increasingly essential requirement for the batteries in start-stop or micro-hybrid vehicles.
It claims that by adding Birla’s Conductex carbon black, 5%-15% of the energy in a battery can be saved.
“The development of the portfolio of conductive carbons tailored specifically for the battery market demonstrates the commitment to the growth of Birla Carbon in the rapidly expanding energy storage arena,” said chief sales and marketing officer John Davidson.
On August 9, 2021, Birla Carbon appointed John Loudermilk as CEO of the company.
Loudermilk has had 13 years with Birla Carbon, having been promoted to chief operating officer in September 2017.
He joined the firm in January 2013 as chief technology officer and president, North America.
As well as their new function in batteries, Birla Carbon’s carbon black products are used in paints and coatings, inks and toners, plastics, adhesives, sealants, textiles and rubber goods.
