December 16, 2021: Luminous Power Technologies announced on December 7 it had signed a formal evaluation agreement with bipolar battery firm Gridtential Energy.
Luminous – an Indian subsidiary of Schneider Electric – will evaluate a combination of 6V and 24V Silicon Joule reference batteries and build prototypes as a preliminary step towards future production.
“Luminous brings decades of experience to the validation process as it evaluates impact on cycle life, energy density, battery efficiency. Charging rates and manufacturability,” the announcement said.
“India is an extremely important market for us and we’re proud to be working with the country’s top battery manufacturers to support demand for renewable and reliable energy in homes, businesses and vehicles,” said Gridtential CEO John Barton.
The fact that Luminous sells its batteries in 35 countries means a successful evaluation could bring Gridtential’s technology to markets in South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Gridtential has development agreements with 14 battery makers including East Penn Manufacturing, which is making the Silicon Joule batteries on a prototype line.
In June, Gridtential signed an agreement with Taiwanese battery company Pilot to evaluate a combination of 6V and 24V Silicon Joule batteries.
