February 9, 2023: Amara Raja Batteries said on February 1 it is assessing the damage to one of its plants in Andhra Pradesh following a fire.
The blaze broke out at the firm’s tubular battery manufacturing unit, which predominantly makes batteries for inverters, on the evening of January 30.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the company said initial estimates indicate the manufacturing unit had sustained major damage.
Company secretary Vikas Sabharwal said the firm is “assessing the possible options and timelines for reinstatement of the affected unit and all efforts to renew the activities are in progress”.
Meanwhile, Sabharwal warned there would be a short-term impact on production and supplies from the Chittoor district unit.
