February 9, 2023: Battery Council International has welcomed a renewed pledge by US president Joe Biden to support investments in clean energy technologies.
Biden said in his February 7 State of the Union address the US was building 500,000 EV charging stations and helping families “save more than $1,000 a year” with tax credits for the purchase of EVs and energy-efficient appliances.
BCI executive vice-president Roger Miksad said on February 8 he welcomed the administration’s continued commitment to a clean energy future and infrastructure investment.
“The recently enacted Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act provide much-needed support to further the growth of our industry, which is already at the forefront of creating sustainable solutions for energy storage.”
Miksad said the lead battery manufacturing industry across North America has an annual manufacturing capacity of more than 206GWh, “delivering batteries critical to enabling a clean energy future.
“From start to finish, these battery manufacturers operate a robust and reliable supply chain to make batteries that power the essential needs of everyday life. Lead battery technology is also working for the future to help create the 500,000 EV charging stations that will be installed across the nation.”
