July 27, 2023: Battery Council International members have been taking part in a national US energy storage conference.

BCI president and executive director Roger Miksad (pictured) said it was great to see so many of the trade association’s member firms at the three-day Energy Storage Grand Challenge Summit in Georgia, which ends today.

Miksad also welcomed an “inspiring” address to the federal government-backed event by Department of Energy assistant secretary Gene Rodrigues.

The DoE’s energy storage grand challenge program aims to speed up the development, commercialization and deployment of next-generation energy storage technologies.

The US wants domestic development and manufacture of energy storage technologies that can meet all of the country’s market demands by 2030.

Miksad told BCI’s annual convention in Kentucky in April that the association was BCI was stepping up its engagement with the DoE in seeking funding for the lead battery industry.

“Lead deserves a bigger share of the DoE’s pie and we need to remain in there demanding a fair and equitable investment for our industry, because if we don’t show up and ask for that money we simply won’t be given it.”
