March 27, 2024: Research consultancy CRU has appointed nickel industry veteran Angela Durrant (pictured) as principal base metals analyst in its Sydney office.

Durrant had worked for CRU in London until 2007, before relocating back to Sydney and joining Wood Mackenzie as senior research manager for nickel industry costs.

CRU announced her appointment on February 22. She will lead the group’s nickel assets service and will also be a key contributor to CRU’s battery value chain service.

CRU said Durrant’s experience and advice will be crucial to clients amid the current oversupply of nickel and resultant price crash — with producers managing the twin pressures of plummeting prices and spiralling costs to remain commercially viable.

Head of base and battery metals at CRU Simon Morris said: “Having spent more than 20 years in the nickel industry and over 10 years in Australia, Angela brings a deep knowledge of the region’s nickel market and emerging global demand drivers, such as the battery industry.”
