April 19, 2024: Two virtual power plant providers, CPower, and EnergyHub, announced on April 16 that they were collaborating to provide Ameren customers across the US mid-west with a new residential VPP.

The service will be available to 1.2 million Ameren Illinois customers in more than 1,200 communities across the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) — the area’s grid operator. The programme will help to cost-effectively manage increasing electricity demand across the region.

Through the partnership, customers with in-home smart thermostats can enrol in EnergyHub’s Bring Your Own Thermostat program with CPower acting as the VPP’s market participant for MISO.

The program provides customers with a $50 enrolment incentive via gift card and an additional $25 annually to those who opt in to help ensure grid reliability during summer peaks.

“As adoption of smart devices such as connected thermostats, electric vehicles, and batteries accelerates, consumers have an important role to play in the future of our energy system,” said Erika Diamond, senior VP, customer solutions, at EnergyHub.

CPower has 6.7 GW of capacity at more than 27,000 sites across the US. Its senior VP of sales, Glenn Bogarde said: “We’re excited to partner with EnergyHub to expand our residential portfolio and further support grid reliability across North America.”
