June 19, 2019: Lead battery manufacturer and recycling firm Exide Technologies is to sell its European business, a spokesperson has confirmed to Batteries International. Rumours to that effect had been circulating following a confidential announcement to staff made towards the end of May.

The company would not give any details or make a comment, but the European side is thought to make up approximately 60% of the company’s business, operating four transportation plants, five industrial plants, three recycling plants and two R&D facilities in Europe.

Exide has made a string of senior management changes in recent months, following the appointment of Tim Vargo as CEO in November 2018.
