December 16, 2021: Bipolar battery firm Advanced Battery Concepts has appointed Michael Armstrong as vice president for energy storage, the firm announced on December 14. Armstrong had already been working as a consultant for ABC since May.
The appointment is a further step in the company’s ambitions to enter the energy marketplace with its technology, coming two months after the firm launched its Home Emergency Storage System for residential energy back-up.
Working with the University of Michigan’s Ross Business School and its MAP (Multidisciplinary Action Projects) programme, ABC says it has identified ‘fresh perspectives’ on the US long-duration stationary energy storage market.
“It has also revealed global opportunities within the scope of ABC’s portfolio of patents and capabilities,” says the company.
“Energy storage is the major focus for Armstrong, especially in the 1MW and larger requirements found in commercial and industrial applications. ABC has identified several categories for which our proprietary technologies can provide storage including wind farms, solar farms and more conventional power generation stations.
“The company is making a major commitment to help serve the rapidly growing needs for storage within these markets.”
In 2015 Armstrong co-founded the consultancy Ineo Energy, which advises companies planning to invest in renewable energy. He has also worked in financing for renewable energy businesses and solar projects.
“Mike’s experience leading development programmes and projects with several growth-focused organizations will be a great asset to our organization,” said CEO Ed Shaffer.
