February 20, 2025: Lead battery manufacturer Eternity Technologies has announced investment plans for a production hub in India on a site acquired from EnerSys.
Eternity said on February 13 it had acquired the production facility in Vijayawada from EnerSys India Batteries Private Limited, as part of plans to target growing demand for electrical forklifts and energy storage in the country.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Eternity said it would invest significantly in upgrading the facility.
The site will be “transformed into a state-of-the-art production hub, enhancing efficiency, integrating advanced technology, and ensuring adherence to the highest environmental standards”, the company said.
Vijayawada will also be key to responding to India’s growing demand for highly reliable stationary batteries for power stations and energy storage applications, Eternity said.
CEO Mark Stevenson said the acquisition marked a key step in the firm’s global expansion by strengthening its presence in India’s dynamic market.
“We are committed to providing cutting-edge battery solutions that support the country’s rapid shift towards electrification and sustainable energy.
“Our investment in Vijayawada will enhance local production capabilities, ensuring we meet the evolving needs of both the logistics and energy sectors with high-quality, safe, and fully recyclable products.”
Batteries International asked for details of products to be made at the new plant but Eternity had yet to respond at the time of going to press.
Last month, Eternity said it had launched a joint venture with Enexa to ramp up sales of industrial batteries in Italy.
