March 16, 2026: CATL has reported near 40% year-on-year growth in global lithium battery sales for 2025 — increasing its dominance of the global market.

The China-based manufacturer for EV and BESS batteries said on March 10 that annual lithium sales reached 661GWh.

Global production capacity reached 772GWh in 2025, with 321GWh under construction by the end of 2025.

Revenue reached Rmb 424 billion ($60 billion) in 2025, up 17% year-on-year, with net profit of Rmb 72.2 billion, an increase of 42%.

Meanwhile, CATL cited analysis by South Korea’s SNE Research showing the battery maker’s global power battery market share increased by 1.2 percentage points to over 39%, ranking first globally for nine consecutive years. The firm said its overseas market share rose to 30%.

To date, CATL batteries have been installed in more than 24 million vehicles worldwide.

In terms of energy storage, CATL said SNE data confirmed ESS battery shipments accounted for 30.4% of the global market in 2025, ranking first globally for five consecutive years, with around 2,300 projects deployed worldwide.

Shipments from CATL’s BESS integration business grew by more than 160% year-on-year.

The battery maker said it will continue to expand its product portfolio after launching a range of new technologies in 2025 including its second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, Shenxing Pro Battery, Freevoy Dual-Power Battery, Naxtra Battery, and Super Hybrid Battery.

Sodium ion batteries are expected to see wider adoption from 2026, including in battery swapping, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and energy storage, CATL said.

R&D investment reached Rmb 22.1 billion, with more than RMB 90 billion invested in research over the past decade.

Spent battery recycling reached 210,000 tons, regenerating 24,000 tonnes of lithium salts, supporting the development of a circular battery economy, CATL said.

Batteries International reported last February that CATL and Chinese auto firm Changan had unveiled what the partners said was the first mass-production car equipped with sodium ion batteries.
