January 23, 2026: Banner has been awarded two long-term battery supply contracts worth a total of €195 million ($231 million) in North American and European deals.
The Austria-headquartered lead battery manufacturer confirmed on January 16 the contracts, with long-standing partners from the automotive industry, secure continued use of its production capacity through to 2028.
One of the contracts, with an unnamed German company, amounts to €120 million and covers the supply of batteries for start-stop applications, plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles.
Deliveries will be made both for series production and for the original spare parts business.
The second contract, worth €75 million, strengthens the presence of the Banner Group in North America, the firm said. Batteries will be supplied for vehicles with start-stop systems as well as for conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
The focus is on supplying the aftermarket in North America, particularly in Canada, although customer details were not disclosed.
The new orders were secured despite considerable economic challenges, said Banner CEO Werner Töpfl.
In North America, unfavourable exchange rate developments are putting pressure on business. At the same time, the situation in the European automotive original equipment sector remains tense, he said.
In addition, high labour and energy costs as well as increasing regulatory requirements at Banner’s production site in Austria pose further challenges.
“That we were able to prevail under these conditions with two long-term major contracts confirms our strategic direction and the performance of our team,” Töpfl said.
The contracts, which Banner said were secured toward the end of 2025, follow the firm’s announcement last October that it was expanding its range, with four new battery types to tighten the firm’s grip on the multi-drive systems market.
Banner said it was introducing three EFB models for start-stop passenger cars, hybrid, and EVs, as well as a new AGM battery for commercial vehicles.
Batteries International reported last June that Banner’s sales of lead batteries in the 2024-25 financial year were in excess of four million — an increase of more than 200,000 over the previous year.
Revenue rose to €312 million, an increase of over €10 million compared to the previous year.
