February 27, 2026: Gravita India has announced that the overall lead battery recycling capacity of its Mundra plant is now more than 145,000 tonnes per annum following an expansion project.
Batteries International reported earlier in February that the scale-up of operations at the site in Gujurat was expected before the end of March.
Gravita confirmed on February 25 the 80,300 tonnes expansion project had been completed.
The expanded capacity will enable the firm to improve operational efficiencies, optimize logistics and better serve key export markets, Gravita said — noting that Mundra’s strategic proximity to the port continues to provide advantages in sourcing raw materials and serving global customers.
“This expansion reinforces our commitment to circular economy principles while strengthening our ability to meet increasing demand for high-quality recycled lead in a responsible and sustainable manner,” Gravita said.
Last month, Gravita launched its first lithium recycling plant at Mundra — converting EV batteries into black mass — with an investment cost of around Rs14 crore ($1.6 million).
The company said the facility has a processing capacity of 6,000 million tonnes annually.
