March 25, 2026: Rob Wilson has been appointed chair of the International Lead Association, succeeding Florian von Steinkeller.
Von Steinkeller, who announced his departure from Glencore earlier this month after a 17-year career with the group, was ILA chair for more than 10 years.
The ILA said on March 24 that Wilson, who is director of metal sales and marketing at Teck Resources, had been elected by the association’s board.
He has been with Teck for more than 30 years. He was recently appointed to his current post, as well as chairing Teck’s materials stewardship program, after holding several commercial strategy posts in the firm.
Wilson praised the work of his predecessor and colleagues on the board, noting that the ILA is the only global association representing the interests of the industry.
“The lead mining and recycling industry worldwide plays a critical role underpinning economies and delivering resources that support many vital applications and services,” he said.
ILA executive director Andy Bush said Wilson brings a wealth of industry experience and a global perspective to the organization.
Bush thanked von Steinkeller for his work as chairman, saying ILA membership had grown substantially along with its program of work supporting the industry worldwide.
Steinkeller said: “Today, the industry is increasingly recognised as part of the solution — setting the benchmark for battery recycling efficiency, enabling the recovery of critical metals, and contributing innovative pathways to decarbonisation.
“This progress is a testament to the outstanding collective effort of the ILA team, which I am confident will continue to thrive under Rob’s leadership.”
