July 24, 2024: UK battery storage developer, Harmony, announced on July 19 it is to start construction shortly on France’s largest BESS. This should be completed by winter 2025.
The facility, located in Nantes Saint-Nazaire Harbour, will be the country’s first large scale two-hour battery, designed to store 100MW/200MWh of electricity, enough to power 170,000 homes for two hours — greater than the population of the city of Nantes.
The project, which marks a significant milestone for the French energy system, will be built on the site of the former Cheviré power station, which operated from 1954 to 1986.
It will use Tesla Megapack and Autobidder technology.
Harmony has already developed the three biggest BESS in Europe by MWh — all with Tesla Megapack and Autobidder technology.
