February 16, 2023: Italian lead recycler and engineering company STC has agreed a recycling equipment supply partnership for lead and lithium ion batteries with ACE Green Recycling, the companies announced on February 8.
An STC spokesperson told Batteries International ACE will design its proprietary technology as a package while STC will design and manage the complete projects, integrating ACE’s technology with the rest of the plant.
STC will then manufacture the ACE package as well as all the remaining equipment for battery breaking, refining and ingot casting.
Under the terms of a memorandum of understanding, the companies will also explore opportunities for licensing and co-marketing their battery recycling technologies.
ACE’s co-founder and CTO Vipin Tyagi said: “This collaboration leverages STC’s expertise in manufacturing high quality equipment and large-scale project management along with ACE’s innovative battery recycling technology to form a partnership that will transform battery recycling globally by creating more efficient project deployments.”
ACE said last December it was teaming up with Tabono Investments to build and operate battery recycling facilities for lead and lithium ion batteries in South Africa.
The companies have signed a term sheet to form a joint venture to build and operate two plants on greenfield sites that will separately process and recycle lead and lithium ion batteries using ACE’s technology, which it claims operates without fossil fuel-based heating.
STC told Batteries International last month that a new lead battery breaker plant it had supplied under a $5 million contract to Tunisian battery producer Nour would start operations before the spring.
