March 9, 2023: The Consortium for Battery Innovation has welcomed its latest member organization from India — Exide Industries.
CBI director Alistair Davidson announced the move on March 6.
Other Indian companies that are members of the CBI include batteries peer Amara Raja Batteries and lead recycling company Gravita India.
Exide Industries CEO and MD Subir Chakraborty (pictured) said last November that the development and sales of lead batteries would continue to be the company’s “core business”, despite also moving into the lithium ion sector.
Chakraborty said the firm’s market share of the overseas lead batteries market continued to grow rapidly — along with increased requests for quotes to supply auxiliary lead batteries for EVs.
The company exports to 60 countries, with the largest markets being Europe, the US, Saudi Arabia and southeast Asia, he said.
