February 20, 2025: Luminous Power Technologies has launched production at its new industrial battery plant in northern India.
The backup power and solar tech firm said the plant at Haridwar, which started up on February 4, boasts a pioneering green positive plate manufacturing system that uses 100% grey oxide through a wet paste filling process.
The eight-acre plant site, which will have an annual production capacity of 1.5GWh-2GWh, is also equipped with an advanced lead acid and alternative chemistry laboratory that Luminous said will drive innovation in energy storage.
“By incorporating cutting-edge automation, we are not only improving operational efficiency but also catering to the growing power storage demands of homes and businesses,” the company said.
The plant also features a 1MW rooftop solar installation, which Luminous said is the second biggest industrial solar facility of its kind in the state of Uttarakhand, plus an ‘advanced learning center’ to encourage efficiency and innovation among the workforce.
The India Lead and Zinc Development Association welcomed the launch of the plant, which it said had received environmental endorsements from the British Standards Institution and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
Luminous became part of the Schneider Electric group in 2011. As of 2022, Luminous had seven manufacturing plants and more than 28 sales offices in India, with a presence in nearly 40 countries.
Last September, the Consortium for Battery Innovation said Luminous had become its latest member — and praised the firm’s expertise on cutting-edge solar systems, inverters and batteries.
