June 5, 2025: EnerSys has formally opened its expanded US Sumter plant, as it expands investment in Thin Plate Pure Lead, flooded lead and lithium ion batteries.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on May 29 to mark completion of the $6.7 million 34,000 ft2 expansion in South Carolina.

EnerSys said the Sumter metal plant, established in 1972, is a key pillar in its North American manufacturing network and supporting domestic supply chain resilience.

EnerSys said earlier this year it had finalized a $199 million funding deal with the US government to support construction of a lithium battery gigafactory in South Carolina.
EnerSys announced the completion of contract and funding negotiations with the Department of Energy on January 17 — less than a year after choosing the site in Greenville.
