September 15, 2025: BESS and solar developer ib vogt has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) with an undisclosed US-based tech company for a planned utility-scale photovoltaic project in Romania.
Germany-based Vogt said the long-term deal represented a major milestone for the company and was a clear sign of the growing maturity of Romania’s corporate renewable procurement market.
Vogt’s 70 MWp (megawatt peak) Romania project, designed with bifacial modules and single-axis trackers, with potential energy storage readiness, will generate around 110 GWh of clean electricity annually.
Under the vPPA, Vogt will sell energy generated into the grid at the market price, while consumers continue to pay their utilities for the electricity. The difference between the market price and the fixed price of the vPPA is settled at predetermined intervals, typically every hour — allowing businesses to hedge against energy price volatility and support sustainability without requiring on-site infrastructure.
The facility will contribute to grid decarbonization in one of Europe’s fast-evolving power markets, although Romania’s corporate PPA sector remains relatively nascent, with a scarcity of bankable, long-term contracts to date.
However, Vogt said the agreement demonstrates increasing participation by investment-grade global technology buyers and the bankability of high-quality utility-scale solar in central and eastern Europe.
To date, Vogt has built 3.3 GWp of PV power plants and has 1.6 GWp under construction worldwide. The company said it maintains a global development pipeline of more than 37.5 GWp of PV and over 9.4 GW of BESS projects.
