February 20, 2026: Initial grid synchronization for an eventual 4.5GWh BESS and 3.5GW solar project in the Philippines has been completed by the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
Meralco announced the launch of the MTerra Solar facility on February 14 and its connection to the regional Luzon grid.
The facility will have an initial 250MWac of solar capacity and 112.5MWh of battery energy storage capacity ready by the end of this month.
During this period, the project is set to begin exporting 85MW of constant power to the grid to demonstrate MTerra Solar’s stability and reliability as an integrated renewable energy and energy storage system.
A total of 622 BESS units have already been installed although the battery chemistry and technology supplier were not disclosed. This is in preparation for a ramp up in its capacity in the following months, Meralco said.
As development progresses through its phases, MTerra Solar is expected to become the world’s largest integrated solar PV and BESS facility once fully completed — in support of the Philippines’ renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
