March 6, 2026: Bipolar lead battery developer Gridtential has rebranded to Silicon Joule and is relocating its pilot operations and battery design from California to the Midwest US.

The name change took effect on March 1, as the company said it was entering its commercialization phase. CEO Ray Kubis said final discussions are being finalized over facilities in Indiana and Ohio, with site selection expected soon.

Meanwhile, the firm’s joint assembly line with East Penn Manufacturing in Pennsylvania for the new 24V GC2+ battery continues to expand, supporting increased production capacity and customer deployment.

A recruitment drive is also underway for mechanical engineers and supply chain experts.

The new company name derives from the proprietary battery tech that uses treated silicon wafers as a key structural and electrochemical component within advanced bipolar battery designs, including the new GC2+. However, the firm’s legal entity will remain Gridtential Energy.

Kubis said the move positions the firm closer to strategic partners involved in next-generation power and hybrid energy storage systems, while boosting access to an efficient and scalable supply chain.

Lead battery veteran Kubis joined the Gridtential board in 2015 after stepping down at Ecobat Technologies where he was president and managing director. He became Gridtential’s chairman in 2016 and has served as CEO since last November.
