April 20, 2026: Organizers have unveiled the program for the ELBC 2026 lead battery technical conference, promising a cutting-edge schedule showcasing innovations and challenges that will shape the future of the industry.

ELBC 2026, taking place in Vienna from September 15-18, will feature informed insight from industry leading lights who will bring their expertise to bear on latest technology advances.

Speakers in this year’s plenary sessions will provide the latest on global markets and trends, with a comprehensive global battery market outlook, from KPMG.

CRU will provide detailed lead market analysis, Leoch International chairman Dong Li will look at the direction of travel for Asian battery markets, while SiliconJoule CEO Ray Kubis will give his take on the future battery market.

Key topics to be highlighted by lead battery specialists will range from partial state of charge operations, battery & power management, automotive product & test development to new components.

Lead battery fundamentals will be covered in interactive discussions, while sessions will include pre-conference workshops on the EU’s Battery Regulation and its significant implications for industry.

The Austria Center conference is jointly organized by the Consortium for Battery Innovation and the International Lead Association.

ELBC’s detailed technical program will feature:

Carter Abney from Borregaard presenting advanced characterization techniques being used for lead battery electrodes to understand the fundamentals happening at microscopic scale to advance the lead battery performance;

Olaf Sielemann from Clarios outlining how to optimize lead-based batteries so that they can reliably serve as backup power sources for advanced vehicle functions;

Shane Christie from ArcActive and Nicolas Clement from Hollingsworth & Vose describing an innovative method for manufacturing lead battery electrodes with a unique structure that enhances overall battery performance.

A CBI workshop will examine synergies between lead and other battery technologies as ESS applications become more complex — with no single battery tech able to meet every requirement.

The workshop will explore the distinct strengths and limitations offered by lead, lithium and other chemistries across technical performance, safety, recycling and overall cost

CBI executive director and ELBC co-organizer Alistair Davidson said as geopolitical events drive a huge increase in BESS demand worldwide, ELBC will be key to understanding both the market opportunities and technical developments that will have the most impact in the coming years.

ILA executive director and co-organizer Andy Bush said: “ELBC is a conference organized by the industry, for the industry and this year’s program comes at a pivotal time with so much change, challenge and opportunity for the lead battery industry worldwide.”
