May 6, 2026: East Penn Manufacturing has hailed its ‘double reward’ return-to-recycle event a success in the firm’s bid to turbocharge support for battery recycling.

The company said its first public Power2Recycle drive-thru battery return, held on April 25, drew more than 300 vehicles and collected more than 800 batteries in just four hours.

Designed to make lead battery returns more convenient and rewarding, the event near East Penn’s manufacturing site in Lyon Station, Pennsylvania, offered double the standard reimbursement for qualifying batteries, including automotive, truck, marine, lawn and garden, and golf cart batteries.

Participants also received family-friendly Power2Recycle giveaways and had opportunities to win prizes — all from the convenience of their vehicles.

The event reflected the battery giant’s commitment to responsible recycling and environmental stewardship of lead batteries — the most recyclable consumer product in the world.

Joel Brady, VP of marketing and communications, said: “It was a great experience to be a part of an entirely new event that encouraged battery recycling in a way that also provided a service to the community.

“The number of batteries collected far exceeded our expectations. That’s a testament to the participants, our employees, and the recyclability of the product.”
