ProLogium investment boost as Taiwan Li ceramic plant ramps up

A major Japanese utility has made an undisclosed investment in Taiwan-based ProLogium Technology — which has started mass production of the latest iteration of its lithium ceramic batteries (LCBs).

ProLogium confirmed the strategic investment from Kyushu Electric Power on September 9, after the battery firm announced ‘giga-scale’ manufacturing of its LCBs in Taiwan on September 2.

The ramping up of production of what ProLogium described as Gen 3.5 LCBs moves high-energy-density all-solid-state battery technology beyond laboratory and pilot-scale development, the company said. The Taiwan plant has been operational since 2024.

A third-party test report, from German technical inspection body TÜV, showed ProLogium’s 185.4 Ah large-format cell reached 381 Wh/kg gravimetric energy density and 903 Wh/L volumetric energy density, the battery maker said.

Separately, UL Solutions tested the cell under Chinese solid-state battery standard GB/T 43568-2026. After six hours under vacuum at 120°C, the cell recorded weight loss of less than 0.05%, well below the 0.5% maximum threshold for all-solid-state classification, ProLogium claimed.

The company said the Chinese standard has also been submitted to the International Electrotechnical Commission as a reference for international standardisation.

The LCB platform was defined in 2012 and ProLogium has since shipped more than 2.4 million cells for a variety of applications.

ProLogium’s cell architecture combines a ceramic separator with a proprietary edge-frame structure, creating an additional separator around the electrode perimeter to help isolate potential burrs while providing sealing and insulation.

The company said the investment boost from Kyushu, an existing ProLogium partner, will spur the firms’ continued work on studying the potential of next-gen battery tech across a range of sectors, including construction machinery and other electrification uses where safety, environmental resilience and performance are critical.

Batteries International reported in February 2026 that ProLogium had broken ground on the phased construction of a solid-state lithium ceramic batteries gigafactory in France.

The Dunkirk facility will be home to production of ProLogium’s European fourth generation ‘superfluidised all-inorganic solid-state lithium ceramic battery’.
