November 16, 2025: India’s Adani Group said on November 11 it was entering the BESS sector with plans for a 1.1GW/3.5GWh project — the largest in the country.

The diversified business group said the project, one of the world’s largest single-location energy storage deployments, would require more than 700 BESS containers and be commissioned by March 2026.

The lithium ion facility will play a critical role in easing peak load pressures, reducing transmission congestion, mitigating solar curtailment and so improving grid reliability and efficiency.

The BESS is being developed at Adani’s Khavda renewables park in Gujarat — where Adani Green Energy Limited announced last year it had commissioned cumulative capacity of 1,000MW of solar energy. With that, the firm said it had achieved operational capacity of 9,478MW toward its goal of 45,000MW by 2030.

Adani said it also plans to deploy an additional 15GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term target of 50GWh total over the next five years.

Company chairman Gautam Adani said: “With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability.”
