November 24, 2025: Aukera Energy said on November 17 it had secured a €60 million ($70 million) debt facility to support construction of a 250MW/500MWh BESS in Romania.
Aukera said the financing, from Kommunalkredit Austria, would see it build its first stand-alone BESS in the country, in Ialomita County, in two phases.
Phase 1 is underway and the full project is to be operational by mid-2026.
Aukera says it is a technology agnostic developer and the company did not disclose what battery chemistry will be deployed for the project.
Aiden Yates, Aukera’s MD for project finance, said: “This first financing for Aukera in Romania brings together our market-leading local and international expertise across the platform to deliver the first project in our 2GW Romanian BESS pipeline.”
Aukera, founded in 2021, focuses on the development, construction, and operation of solar, wind and BESS projects. The Brussels-headquartered company is developing a pipeline of over 16GW across the UK, Germany, Belgium, Italy, in addition to Romania.
The firm’s Romania project reflects growth in battery storage and renewables investment in the European nation.
Batteries International reported earlier this year that equity investor T2Y Capital was set to become the second-largest shareholder of Romanian lithium ESS company Prime Batteries Energy Holding.
Newly founded T2Y said it would support Bucharest-headquartered Prime’s international scale-up of its business with expansion capital and strategic expertise.
In September, BESS and solar developer ib vogt said it had signed a virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) with an undisclosed US-based tech company for a planned utility-scale photovoltaic project in Romania.
Germany-based Vogt said the long-term deal represented a major milestone for the company and was a clear sign of the growing maturity of Romania’s corporate renewable procurement market.
