August 15, 2025: Fluence is to deliver a 500 MW / 2,000 MWh BESS for Australia, in a deal the firm said represents its largest project agreement globally.
The Tomago BESS for energy company AGL will be built in New South Wales using Fluence’s Gridstack Pro utility scale battery tech.
Fluence said on July 30 the project will be one of the biggest energy storage deals in terms of MWh in the Australian National Energy Market.
Gridstack is Fluence’s proprietary lithium iron phosphate system. Fluence will build the BESS and provide ongoing service and maintenance
The project marks 5GWh of projects secured by Fluence in Australia to date. Tomago will be the third grid-scale battery storage system the company will deliver for AGL.
Fluence has a strong track record in Australia, with four storage systems currently in operation, another two expected to enter into operation in the next few months, and several BESS projects currently under construction.
Last month, Fluence said it had teamed up with Ukrainian private energy sector investor DTEK to start commissioning a 200MW BESS in the country.
DTEK said on July 10 the BESS was the largest such project of its kind in Ukraine to date.
