February 9, 2026: An initial 80,000 tonnes expansion of lead battery recycling capacity at Gravita India’s Mundra plant is set for completion soon, the company has confirmed.

Batteries International reported in February 2025 that Mundra would eventually increase recycling capacity to 100,000 tonnes a year.

Now CEO Yogesh Malhotra has confirmed in a January 27 earnings call that an expansion of 80,000 tonnes will be achieved in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year — which ends next month.

Meanwhile, an expansion of lead recycling capacity at Gravita’s facility in Jaipur, up to 45,000 tonnes a year, is also targeted for completion in the current fiscal year.

Customers for Gravita’s lead include major original equipment manufacturers, with whom the company has long-term tie-ups, together with many of the world’s biggest traders, Malhotra said.

Asked about reports of market saturation in southeast Asia, Malhotra said volumes there are so low that even if there were a fall in demand, Gravita would be able to sell all the material it produces to OEMs directly in the region.

“We work with almost all of the traders and we work with most of the major OEMs within and outside India. Whatever products we are making, we are just trying to sell it at the highest price.”
