September 29, 2025: Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for a 2,500 MWh BESS and solar facility in Rajasthan on September 25.

The Avaada Group said its project, set on 4,000 acres in the Bikaner district, will be the largest BESS built in the country to date.

The energy group did not disclose the battery chemistry to be deployed at the site, which will include a co-located 1,560 MWp (megawatt peak) solar plant using bifacial solar panels made in India.

Modi also inaugurated a separate 282 MWp solar power project, also in Bikaner. The PM said the facilities will significantly contribute to India’s clean energy capacity, generating substantial amounts of green power while preventing millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Avaada has already commissioned 2.2 GW of renewable energy power generating capacity in Rajasthan.

The company’s investors include Brookfield Renewable, which has invested $1 billion in Avaada through its Brookfield Global Transition Fund. Thailand’s PTT Group is also an investor in Avaada’s renewable energy business unit.
