February 13, 2026: Two additional sites have joined the pioneering international Lead Battery 360° Certification (LB360°) program, taking the total to 10.

ILA said on February 10 Acumuladores Moura in Brazil and Nyrstar Stolberg in Germany are the latest facilities — following the first cohort of eight sites including plants from Clarios, East Penn Manufacturing, Ecobat and Boliden unveiled last June.

All certified participants undergo independent third-party assurance checks to confirm they have successfully implemented policies and practices that meet the performance expectations described in the LB360° Code.

Sites that are certified have demonstrated their commitment to adhering to internationally recognized responsible operating practices.

LB360° was formed in 2019 by a global alliance of lead and lead battery industry groups including the Association of Battery Recyclers, BCI, EUROBAT and the ILA.

The organizations adopted a set of guiding principles designed to help further protect workers and the environment and promote sustainable practices in three key areas.

First, the principles encourage continuous improvement in the management of lead exposure and emissions through responsible health and safety and environmentally sound production practices.

Partners are also required to promote the adoption of responsible sourcing policies, working through supply chains to ensure that the lead used for battery manufacturing is sourced from companies that uphold high environmental, social, and governance standards.

Activities should also further minimize the environmental impact of used lead batteries through responsible recycling practices.

Steve Binks, senior director of regulatory affairs at the ILA, said: “The inclusion of Acumuladores Moura and Nyrstar Stolberg shows continued progress in global efforts to provide supply chain transparency and assurance.

“We encourage more sites to join us in this mission to share best practices on responsible sourcing and improve worldwide health and safety through industry-led standards.”

Batteries International reported in 2023 that Moura had awarded a lead battery recycling plant supply contract to Italian engineering company Engitec Technologies.

Nyrstar Stolberg was acquired by the Trafigura Group in 2023 and restarted after being out of action since 2021.
