Nano One said on September 11 it is moving ahead with its first development company, Canada DevCo, as part of plans to deploy LFP cathode production facilities in Canada.
The company has launched a site evaluation study to assess possible locations for a proposed 25ktpa cathode production plant, with a potential expansion to up to 100ktpa of production capacity.
Nano One said the project aims to serve ESS, EV and defence markets in Canada and internationally.
The study will identify preferred site options and assess factors such as access to utilities and key infrastructure, as well as relevant permitting roadmaps.
COO Denis Geoffroy said the project would expand the company’s reach beyond its initial Candiac facility in Quebec.
“There is increasing market pull from customers for the industry to deliver LFP cathode active materials from a regionally focused and resilient supply chain,” the firm said. “Discussions with potential strategic partners and customers for Canada DevCo are progressing.”
Batteries International reported in November 2025 that Nano One had been awarded C$5 million ($3.6 million) from Natural Resources Canada to scale production of the firm’s proprietary One-Pot process for LFP cathode active materials process and accelerate commercialisation.
Canada’s energy and natural resources minister Tim Hodgson said the funding would support Nano One’s work at its Candiac, Québec and Burnaby facilities through to March 31, 2027.
In a related move, Ontario province launched a C$500 million ($364 million) critical minerals processing fund to support investment in projects including EV and battery manufacturing.
