January 9, 2026: Canada’s NEO Battery Materials said on January 5 it had secured official vendor status from an undisclosed ‘Asian Fortune Global 500’ automotive customer.
NEO, a silicon-enhanced battery materials and components developer, said the status marked a milestone in its supply of technology and products in support of longer-running, rapid-charging lithium ion batteries.
This approval with the automotive OEM serves as formal validation of NEO’s operational readiness and reflects the customer’s acceptance of NEO’s product quality and manufacturing capability to support ongoing testing and integration activities, the firm said.
NEO’s head of manufacturing and facility operations, S J Youn, said: “Supplying battery products to global-tier automotive customers requires consistently meeting strict quality, technical, and operational standards from procurement to delivery.”
The deal follows last summer’s announcement that NEO had agreed a sodium ion battery tech development deal with South Korea’s NainTech.
NEO said cooperation would focus on supplying energy storage systems and high-performance batteries using NainTech’s proprietary nanomaterial MXene additives.
