Stryten Energy has formally completed its acquisition of C&D Technologies and Trojan Battery — marking one of the largest consolidations in the North American lead battery sector in recent years.
Stryten announced the completion on October 1, more than two months after revealing the deal to establish a powerhouse manufacturing base for transportation, industrial, critical infrastructure and military applications.
Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but a raft of investments are now planned, including in AGM battery manufacture and products as well as services for sectors including defence and telecoms.
The combined company operates 18 battery manufacturing and component facilities across the US, Mexico and China, with a global workforce of around 4,800.
Stryten said the company will continue to operate under the Stryten Energy name while preserving the C&D Technologies and Trojan Battery product brands.
The company will expand investments in US battery manufacturing capacity, facility modernisation, equipment upgrades and workforce development.
In addition, there are plans to expand the firm’s AGM battery manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand from automotive aftermarket customers for start-stop and hybrid vehicle applications requiring high-performance batteries.
Mike Judd, Stryten president and CEO, said the move brings together decades of manufacturing expertise, innovation and customer commitment under one company.
“We intend to accelerate investments in domestic battery manufacturing capacity, advanced energy storage technologies and military production capabilities, creating a stronger company with the scale, technology portfolio and manufacturing capabilities to support growing customer demand across transportation, speciality motive, data centre, telecommunications, industrial and military applications.”
Judd said the addition of C&D Trojan expands the firm’s ability to serve the automotive aftermarket with advanced AGM battery technology.
The combination of the companies’ military battery portfolios creates one of the most comprehensive domestic battery platforms supporting US defence, government and national security applications, Judd said.
Planned investments will support the scaling of US-based manufacturing capacity to meet increasing demand for batteries used in land warfare systems, air defence systems, naval surface/undersea systems, logistics, reserve power systems, nuclear power and other essential infrastructure.
