August 16, 2024: Carbon additives company Birla Carbon has announced that three more of its manufacturing units have been awarded sustainability certification ISCC PLUS.

The sites at North Bend in the US, Hamilton in Canada and Santander in Spain now have accreditation from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) — a voluntary scheme that helps identify companies providing sustainable and circular raw materials.

Birla said on July 19 it now expects to complete certifications for its remaining three plants by the end of this year.

John Loudermilk, president and CEO, said the certification marked the firm’s progress in demonstrating environmental stewardship and circularity through the provision of advanced products.

“As we continue to secure certifications globally, we are strengthening our dedication to sustainable and traceable practices, setting industry benchmarks, and moving towards a more sustainable future.”

Batteries International reported last May that Birla’s three manufacturing plants in India had secured ISCC PLUS.

In May 2023, Birla’s manufacturing plant in Italy became the firm’s first to be awarded ISCC PLUS.

Last February, Birla said it had also received ISCC PLUS certification for its manufacturing plants in the US (Hickok) and South Korea (Yeosu).
