May 15, 2025: The Consortium for Battery Innovation, C&D Technologies East Penn Manufacturing, EnerSys, Hoppecke, Stryten Energy, Trojan Battery Company, and expert consultants are evaluating the feasibility of VRLA battery technology for use in nuclear facilities.
The CBI said the project funded by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission was a 15-month initiative that aims to enhance the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants by using advanced lead battery tech.
The study will assess the feasibility, use, qualification and monitoring of batteries in safety-critical backup systems for nuclear reactors and provide insights and set new standards for the industry, the CBI said.
