September 13, 2018: The International Lead Association announced at the ELBC last week that the Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium was changing its name to the Consortium of Battery Innovation (BCI).
“The work we’re doing to rebrand ALABC is essentially to reflect the actual role of the organization now because it has evolved significantly,” said Hywel Jarman, director of communications with the ILA (pictured).
ALABC director Alistair Davidson said the organization was the lead battery industry’s innovation hub, and an updated website and other material would be produced to better reflect the research it was doing to enhance lead battery performance.
“We’re also much more involved in talking to governments, higher education and other industries about the capabilities of lead battery technology and so the way we communicate and present the consortium needs updating to reflect that,” Jarman said.
“As an innovation hub, we should be sharing information and case studies about the many new energy storage facilities and projects supported by advanced lead batteries.
“So the organization is in essence modernizing itself and is better positioned to carry out research and support projects linked to the mega trends affecting our industry — electrification, decarbonization, the huge demand for rechargeable battery energy storage and the like.”
