March 13, 2025: A foundation stone has been laid marking development of four manufacturing units in India’s Telangana state that will form part of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility’s battery ‘giga corridor’.

The units will be involved in the refining of critical materials and battery recycling associated with the lithium battery cells project, India’s electronics and IT minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said at the ceremony on March 8.

He said: “Electric mobility remains a focus area for the government and we are committed to developing the right infrastructure and ecosystem for the promotion and adoption of EVs,” the minister said.

“We welcome Indian innovation and manufacturing initiatives and look forward to the success of this endeavour.”
Amara Raja broke ground in May 2023 for its 16GWh lithium battery cells factory and research complex in Telangana.
The latest ceremony came just over a year after Batteries International reported that the Telangana state government had pledged further backing for the project.

Amara Raja’s Advanced Cell Technologies business division is developing the gigafactory on a site of more than 260 acres.
In addition to battery cell manufacturing, the complex will have a 5GW capacity battery pack production plant.
