EnerSys is to take over New York-based battery tech company Ultralife in a $320 million enterprise value acquisition.

The lead and lithium manufacturer said on October 27 the deal expands its presence in advanced, differentiated battery technologies with US-based manufacturing.

EnerSys expects to realise $15 million to $20 million in annual run-rate cost synergies within the first 18 months.

Ultralife, which also has operations in Canada, the UK and China, is a leading provider of rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries, battery systems, and related accessories for military communications and other specialised applications.

The transaction, expected to close in the first quarter of calendar 2027, will be funded through cash on hand.

EnerSys president and CEO Shawn O’Connell said: “Building on the success of our recent acquisitions, Ultralife expands our portfolio of advanced, reliable, high-performance power solutions. Together, we will be better positioned to support the US Department of War and allied forces with leading-edge, cost-effective technologies for the increasingly electrified battlefield of the future.”

Batteries International reported in July 2026 that EnerSys had refocused plans for its $500 million battery cell gigafactory in South Carolina for US defence needs — and was ending a tech partnership with French Li cells developer Verkor.

The move came after EnerSys announced a realignment of its previous four operating units into a three-segment operating model.
