AlphaCell 4.0HP+ battery

EnerSys has launched an advanced lead battery targeting the market for critical applications in outdoor communications networks.

The US-based battery giant said on May 18 AlphaCell 4.0HP+, using the firm’s thin plate pure lead tech, improves electrochemical stability under variable operating conditions.

As cable broadband and communications networks continue to expand deeper into outdoor and edge environments — where data is processed and analysed close to its source — operators face greater environmental variability within battery enclosures, EnerSys said.

Over time, sustained elevated operating conditions can increase energy consumption, accelerate battery degradation and influence replacement interval stability. The impact is often seen in higher operating expenses over time rather than at the point of purchase.

AlphaCell 4.0HP+ incorporates an integrated catalyst designed to promote internal gas recombination during float operation.

By improving electrochemical stability, the design helps moderate float current demand, reduce sensitivity to operating variability and support more predictable performance over the battery’s service life, particularly in outdoor enclosures and hard-to-reach sites.

EnerSys said testing and prior experience with catalyst-enhanced TPPL designs have shown lower float current under controlled elevated operating conditions, reduced water loss and improved performance compared to non-catalyst TPPL designs.

The battery maker said an extended six-year warranty reflects its confidence in the new battery.

The launch follows EnerSys’ introduction earlier this year of DataSafe HX530T and DataSafe HX600T TPPL batteries designed for high-rate UPS applications in data-centres and critical power systems.
